Tea Sense is a bioplastic made from brewed tea that highlights the best part of the drink while extending the life of the waste product. By capturing aspects such as the smell of the original tea and the natural look of the leaves we were able to create a material that looks aesthetically pleasing and adds the experience of smell to the material. With its natural colouration and beauty of the leaves, this seemed like a perfect opportunity to see what could be done.

With Tea Sense, we wanted to create a material that minimises waste, reduce chemical impacts and explores clean and better technologies.

Tea Sense was made from a combination of discarded tea, glycerol, gelatine and agar-agar. The colouration came from the additives within the tea which varied depending on the strength and type of tea used.
